Aug 25, 2018 Thank you Kevin.Replacing corrupt files was the only solution in case of parsing errors.Sometimes I think that any kind of programs includes stupid errors by default to make us loose hours or days.

(Solved) - Parsing error on HP dv6700 laptop upgraded from Vista to Windows 7
(14 posts)I have a HP Pavilion dv6700 laptop which came with Vista. I have upgraded it to Windows 7 Ultimate.
Whenever I try to do something with Firefox and Outlook, I get the following parsing error message.
________________________________________________________________
HPHC_Scheduler.exe - Configuration parser error
Error parsing
C:Windows|Microsoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727configmachine.config
Parser returned error 0xC00CE556
_________________________________________________________________
I have no idea what this means and other than annoying the machine seems to be working ok.
As an aside, since I have upgraded to Windows 7, do I need to keep all of the HP crapware that is still
there from Vista? What can I safely remove?
Thank you in advance. I appreciate it very much.

Have a look here,

If still having a problem after following the link LH posted have a look at this.
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner.....vista.aspx
I tried LH's link and did the sfc /scannow and no errors were found. I checked on the blog germ-x gave me and could not find any solution there either. I thought I would stick the upgrade Windows 7 disk in and see if I could run a repair, but there is no option for repair, only install.
I have run Registry Mechanic several times and it ignores 11 errors in the registry even when I try to run as administrator. I am wondering if there is something there that would be a problem, though I understand why I can't correct the errors. I will have to check with PCTools about it. Could there be an error in the registry that would cause programs that use .NET Framework to not work? Hmmmm........
What do you have in this folder,
C:Program FilesReference AssembliesMicrosoftFramework
Here is another link that might help http://www.cybertechhelp.com/f.....?p=1063727
LH,
I have folders for v.3.0 and v.3.5 (There are a whole bunch of files in each main folder and the following subfolders in each main folder)
RedistList
Framework.xml
SubsetList
Client.xml
germ-x,
I checked out the link you gave me and I think I found something interesting, but I don't know what to do with it.
I did a msconfig and saw under Services that the Micrsoft.Net Framework NGEN v2.0.50727_x86 was stopped which seems to me to indicate
that anything that uses the .NET Framework would not work. I don't know why it is stopped.
When I get those parsing error messages, at the top of the error message box is the name of the file which has the parsing error. The ones I
have seen and noted are: HPHC_Scheduler.exe, HPHC.exe, TTax.exe (TurboTax), FTM.exe (Family Tree Maker). I am sure there are others, but these
are the ones I have seen and the exe's don't work.
Under the msconfig Startup Tab there was an item HP Health Check Scheduler which was turned off, but it didn't seem to do any good.
chumley,
Three choices.
1. DISABLE HPHC_Scheduler.exe in Startup Items (NOT Needed)
There is a SERVICE associated with this program I think that also needs to be deleted.
OR
2. Go to MS Update Site and Install Framework 2.0 WITH ALL Updates.
Have to keep going back until no more updates are offered.
OR
Clean Install from Win7 Upgrade Disc.
I think this is still possible but will have to check other sources.
Regards,
Rick P.
I did the #1 above unchecking the scheduler and service in msconfig. Still have issue with parsing error.
I will go to #2 and see what happens.
Thanks
LH,
To clarify the previous post:
In each of the folders for v.3.0 and v.3.5 (There are a whole bunch of files in each main folder and the following subfolders in each main folder)
is a subfolder RedistList with a single file named Framework.xml
and
and a subfolder SubsetList with a single file named Client.xml
I don't have any of the files you mentioned above. I have Netframe 3.0 & 3.5 SP1. Here is th elink for NetFrame 3.5 SP1 http://www.microsoft.com/downl.....laylang=en
You asked about deleting the HP crapware. If you don't need / use it then you can delete it.
If it remains persistant you might want to use your recovery partition and restore to factory O/S. Then upgrade again to win7.
Make a backup image of your system, then remove all the HP hocus pocus stuff. Make sure your system is clear and running good then make another backup image.

I have tried to install the NET Framework 3.51 sp1 and it is installed, but I still get the parsing error. I understand now that the NET Frameworks through 3.5 come within the 7 OS and I cannot remove them and reinstall. I am not sure about the 3.51 sp1.
Is it possible that Registry Mechanic has deleted some of the NET Framework settings and is it also possible to compare the settings I have on this computer with my other machine which is running Windows 7 64 bit (this one is 32 bit) and if there is something missing, could I install it from the other machine? Sounds like a pipe dream, but everything I have tried so far with the help of several smart people has not solved my problem.
There is always the possibility of doing a clean boot using the Vista Rescue Disks I made when I got this machine and then upgrade that to 7, but there just has to be a better way.
Well, I bit the bullet. I feel I have tried everything everyone has suggested with no luck, so I did a clean install of 7 Ultimate and spent the day (sigh!) putting things back together. I did accomplish a couple of things. Now is all works and I have elimininated the HP crapware that was included with Vista. So....I think mama will be a happy camper once again.
Thanks guys for your time and help on this issue.

You will get the error when there's something wrong with the content of your machine.config file.
There are two ways to go about fixing this.
First take a backup of the machine.config file.
Simple duplicate the file and name it machine.config_bkup or something like that.
1. The Correct Solution
Open the machine.config file with Notepad or any other text editor of your choice.
Carefully look thru the files for any odd characters.
It may be as easy as some garbage characters at the beginning of the file.
Make corrections or deletions as necessary.
Configuration Parser Error Windows 10
Save and close the file.
If you can't get it to work, try the following.
2. The Workaround Solution
Delete the existing machine.config file.
Make a copy of the machine.config.default file in the same folder,
Parser Returned Error 0xc00ce556
and rename this to machine.config.
This will restore the default configuration.
While this workaround will resolve your installation issue in most cases,
Parsing Error 0xc00ce556 Windows 7
you may also end up losing some configuration details.
(Not that it really matters, since your file already can't be read!)
